Join us for a week of graceful movements, creativity, and fun designed for kids aged 3 to 7. Our camp runs from 9 AM to 12 PM and is packed with exciting activities to keep your little ones engaged and inspired.

Junior Ballet Intensive

July 15-19, 2024

Girls and Boys Ages 8-12 or teens who are new to dance.

Our summer intensive program offers an immersive experience that goes beyond the barre to nurture the dancers to teach them how to take care of themselves. Our expert instructors will guide you through daily classes in classical ballet technique, mime, pointe work (where applicable), variations, and enriching workshops that improve flexibility, and artistry, technique, strength. with focus on Injury Prevention and Body Awareness. *Includes maintenance week

Senior Ballet Intensive

July 22-26, 2024

Male and Female experienced Dancers Ages 13-20 and students with sights on becoming professionals.

Dive into intensive training in classical technique, partnering, contemporary dance, variations, and conditioning, all designed to elevate your artistry and technique. Daily classes include mime, pointe work for female dancers, and for the male dancers strength training.

With focus on Injury Prevention and Body Awareness. 

*Includes maintenance week

Why you should choose our summer program

A clear focus on etiquette, technique improvement, learning from the best teachers while also learning in a safe and healthy space is all possible in Star City School of Ballet. We created a summer program that will be fun, fruitful and healthy. We are hosting two magnific teachers who come from New York and Richmond that have experience working in the professional  world including Lincoln Center, Broadway and international stages.

Also our students both from our regular school year and Summer Program can take the maintenance classes as part of their tuition.  That is an extra value of over 10 hours for each of our students.

July 8-12: Maintenance Ballet Classes Beginners  4:30 to 6:00 and Intermediate to Advanced 6:00 to 8:00 pm 

6 to 7 pm Modern Dance for Beginners and 8 to 9 pm for Intermediate to Advanced Students. *Must be enrolled in the school for 2024 or be part of the Summer Intensives.

Considered to be the best Classical Ballet studio in the Virginia’s Blue Ridge, that gives locals and international dancers the opportunity of being taught by some of the best faculty in the US and the world. This summer we plan to focus not only on our world renowned improvement of technique but doing so focusing on Mental Health, Injury Prevention and Body Awareness.

For us it is up to both the teachers and alumni to treat each other with the utmost respect, creating a relationship that allows for our students to thrive and learn by example. We strive to teach our students to focus on positive social interactions and connections that they need to learn and apply to all aspects of their professional and personal lives.

Valerie will be teaching ballet at our Junior Ballet Camp.She began her dance training at Tulsa Ballet and Lexington Ballet. She joined the State Ballet of Virginia, Richmond Ballet in 2000, and while continuing to perform with them, Valerie also joined The Suzanne Farrell Ballet at The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., where she rose to the rank of Soloist and performed acclaimed Balanchine works from 2013 through their 2017 season. She has performed principal roles in, Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, Giselle; Balanchine ballets such as, Allegro Brillante, Mozartiana, Stars and Stripes and Jewels; as well as in Anthony Tudor's Jardin Aux Lilas and Agnes de Mille's Rodeo.

 As well as working with today’s current choreographers Jessica Lang, Val Caniparoli, Ma Cong, and countless others. Valerie has traveled internationally, performing at the Linbury Theatre at the Royal Opera House in London, at the Chicago Dancing Festival, multiple times at the Joyce Theater in New York City, and multiple theatres throughout China including the Shanghai Grand Theatre. Valerie completed her final season dancing with both the Suzanne Farrell Ballet and Richmond Ballet in May of 2017. She then transitioned into a marketing role with Richmond Ballet for five years while simultaneously welcoming her three angels, Sebastian, Lucille, and Gabriel. Currently Valerie loves sharing the joy of dance with students teaching throughout the state and beyond.

Michael Crawford will teach ballet at our Senior Ballet Camp.

He is from Takoma Park, Maryland. He began dancing with prestigious schools, including the Maryland Youth Ballet and Kirov Academy, with summer intensives at The Rock School and San Francisco Ballet on full scholarships. In his senior year, he was accepted into the Kennedy Center’s Master Class Series, where he trained and performed with top international companies. Mr. Crawford then moved on to the Washington Ballet where, in their top training program, he performed with the company under the direction of Septime Webre. Upon graduation, he went on to study and perform in the Professional Division of The Pacific Northwest Ballet under the direction of Kent Stowell and Francia Russell.

After Pacific Northwest Ballet, he danced with Dance Theatre of Harlem, Jose Mateo Ballet, Ballet Memphis, American Repertory Ballet, Connecticut Ballet, and Oakland Ballet. At these companies, he performed several ballets as a principal artist.He has been privileged to work alongside top productions, such as “Guys and Dolls," "West Side Story," "Show Boat," and other musical performances at The Kennedy Center, as well as touring many other international stages. He has also worked as a principal guesting with The Washington National Opera, Adam Miller Dance Project, Kinetic Dance Works, TranscenDance Group, Brooklyn Ballet, and Ballet Neo.While signed with New York Model Management, Mr. Crawford had the honor to internationally campaign. He has walked in several seasons of NYC Fashion Week. He also appeared in the feature film "Step Up" and can be seen on television in ABC’s production of “Forever.”Michael is also an award-winning teacher and choreographer. He has been teaching and choreographing nationally and internationally for 10 years. He has coached many prize-winning students for competitions, such as Youth America Grand Prix, NYC Dance Alliance, and Showstoppers Dance Competition. He has taught at many studios including Broadway Dance Center, Metropolitan School of the Arts, Princeton Ballet, and many, many more.

His technique oriented classes will help dancers improve their craft,  one week can make a difference when the teachers are real experts and have fresh eyes.
